I'm a software engineer with around a year of experience, most of it spent close to the metal. My day-to-day has been development, deployment and Linux administration on real-world data-security projects — the kind of work where a misconfigured firewall rule matters more than a clever abstraction.

I got into infrastructure sideways. I started out writing application code, then kept finding that the interesting problems were one layer down: why the connection hangs, where the packets go, what happens when the disk fills at 3am. I've stayed there since.

Lately that means instrumenting systems so they explain themselves — Prometheus and Node Exporter for metrics, Loki for logs, Zeek for network visibility, Grafana to tie it together — and building things like a VPN server deployment and a small IaaS control plane to learn how the primitives fit.

I write here mostly to force myself to understand things properly. If a post is on this site, it means I got something working and wanted to leave a trail.
